I enjoyed building up this painting in layers. I started with a heavy texture in the gel medium I use as a gesso. I start with a red background on all my paintings and you can see that with the textured paintings. The red unifies the overall color palette.
This painting was painted mostly with found objects, building up texture over many layers. It’s not the easiest way to paint a realistic object, but I enjoy the challenge and the look of the different techniques used to represent a 3-D form.
I only used a brush in the face, legs, and the brown in the grass to give it depth. Foxes have lots of joy in their day which makes them a great subject to explore.
